Dunston UTS

The next Pre-lim round of the FA cup kicks off tomorrow which means it is time to continue my glory hunt.  You may be aware that the team I picked in the last round were Morpeth Town, Morpeth were sadly knocked out by Dunston UTS, so Dunston or The Fed as they are nicknamed are the team I am following from now on.

Dunston are currently in 7th place in the Northern league division 1 on 9 points one place below Morpeth Town who they beat in the last round of the cup.

Dunston UTS are former winners of the FA Vase 2011-2012, and last won the Northern league division 1 title 2004-2005 season.  The furthest The Fed have gone in the FA Cup is the 4th qualifying round 2003-2004.

Dunston UTS play at the UTS Stadium, Wellington in Gateshead.

The Fed manager is Billy Irwin.  Billy, a former player for the club has been the boss since 2009, he was assistant manager before this from 2007.  Billy is a former player for Durham City, who Dunston face in tomorrows cup tie

Mr William Irwin.  Manager

The club captain is Chris Swailes.  At nearly 44 years old Chris has played for a number of teams including Ipswich, Doncaster Rovers, Peterborough, Kettering and Dagenham and Redbridges bitter rivals Boston United.

Last years leading goalscorer was Jonny Wightman who finished the 2013-2014 season with 14 goals.

Davy Coulson leads the way in the goalscoring charts this season with 3 goals already.

Last time out in the FA Cup Scott Fenwick was the hero as his 2 goals were just enough to knock out  Morpeth Town.  Fenwick will be hoping that if selected he can have similar effect on tomorrow's game against his former team mates.  Scott was signed in the summer from tomorrow's opponents Durham City.

Good luck to Dunston tomorrow and hopefully they will still be in the cup come Saturday at 4.45pm.

Come on The Fed!!

Morpeth Town crashed out of the FA cup to league rivals Dunston UTS on Saturday.  Morpeth maybe 12 places above Dunston in the league but it was the lower placed side that held firm and through 2 goals from striker Scott Fenwick progress to the next round.

According to reports Morpeth started on the front foot and had a couple of good chances in the first 12 minutes or so with midfielders Shaun Bell and captain Sean Taylor testing the UTS defence.

As the half moved on Dunston started to impose themselves on the game with Fenwick and Andrew Bulford pulling the strings.  Morpeth kept going though and Sean Taylor was playing well in the centre of midfield.

Scott Fenwick was giving the Highway men defence a tough time though and eventually it paid dividends as a run into the box saw him brought down and awarded a penalty, which he duly converted himself.

1-0 at half time.

The second half saw Morpeth come out strong again and really work hard to get an equaliser, again Taylor    pulling the strings in midfield and Michael Chilton having chances, the former Dunston player putting one just over the bar.

Morpeth were forcing the issue and putting on the pressure, dangerous crosses coming into the box from      full back Marc Lancaster were causing the Dunston back line problems and it looked as though the Highway Men were going to finally breakdown their opponents. With the pressure starting to mount on  Dunston they finally broke away on the counter and Fenwick was fouled on the edge of the Morpeth             penalty area.  Danny Craggs floated in the resulting free-kick and Scott Fenwick was there to head home     from 4 yards to put the visitors 2-0 up largely against the run of play.

Morpeth to their credit kept battling on and still managed more chances, Lancaster kept putting in crosses      and Michael Chilton was still having chances.  Unfortunately for the Highway Men though Dunston held out    with a backs to the wall last 10 minute display and at the final whistle it will be Dunston UTS that go through to next round and not the hard working, hard battling Morpeth Town.

Bad luck to Morpeth and good luck for the future.

Now I will be supporting The mighty Dunston UTS in the next round of the cup when they take on Durham  City on the 30th August

 Come on The Fed!!!

Morpeth Town AFC

The extra preliminary round of the FA Cup kicks off tomorrow, so I decided to pick a team and go on a glory hunt.

The idea is I pick a team and follow them as far as they go, then when they are beaten I follow the team that knocked them out, I will continue doing this right up to the final next May, hence the glory hunting bit.

There are 184 pre-lim games taking place this weekend and I went for Morpeth Town AFC of the EBAC Nothern League Division 1.  Tomorrow they start their FA Cup journey at home to Dunston UTS.

They are managed by Nick Gray and they play at Craik Park which is near Morpeth Common in Northumberland.

Morpeth have played 2 games so far this season, they drew 2-2 with Newcastle Benfield in their first game and they then beat Ashington 2-1 in their second game. They are currently 8th in the league.

They are captained by midfielder Sean Taylor

Their leading scorer with 2 goals already this season is Michael Chilton, who if selected tomorrow will line up against one of his former teams.

If your looking for a team to support in the FA cup tomorrow, why not get on Morpeth Town.

Come on you Highway Men.
